When brainstorming what kind of video game I was going to make this week, I decided on a choose your own adventure game done on Twitter. I looked through all the other platforms to create games and even started a separate game on Construct 3, but the process was really confusing, and I thought I would be able to produce my best work on a platform I was already comfortable with, Twitter.

Once I had decided on using Twitter, I came up with the general theme for my story narrative. Here are my notes from this process:

Once I had figured out what I was going to base my game around, I started to write potential paths that a character could go on. My game has several different endings, but if you play through the game and go through several storylines, one is clearly the best ending.

One challenge that I faced during the process was figuring out the best system to create my game on Twitter. The tricky part about this process was that my game was based on linking tweets, and I couldn’t write a step in the story unless I had the next step already tweeted (so that I would have a link to embed). For example, my first tweet looks like this:

If I hadn’t already tweeted out the next part of the storyline for A and B, I wouldn't be able to continue on with my story.

In order to make sure I was doing things in the correct order, wrote my storyline out in a table and used identifiers such as a,b,1, and 2 to make sure my storyline was correct. I am attaching my table below, but make sure you have played the game first so that it’s not spoiled. I hope you enjoy my game!
